Since graduation I have continued my work with Adferiad Recovery as Peer Group Leader, assisting with art classes and partaking in outreach work. I also now work as an Outreach Tutor for Swansea Art College and as a Widening Access Assistant for Swansea University. I assist in the delivery of art workshops in deprived areas of Swansea to children aged 2 to 11years but also to adults in community groups such as Crises. Soon I will be delivering art workshops from a therapeutic perspective to clients of Adferiad Recovery. Going forwards I am looking into studying for an MA in Art Psychotherapy
My practice continues ongoing research into the relationship of natural materials, the inner and outer landscape, geological time, and the healing potential of art, but it is not limited to these subjects as the works are intuitive and forever developing.
I created some work using coal, ice cubes containing black ink, black paint set on black card titled ‘Light’ This piece was chosen to be part of the Swansea Open, exhibited in the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea. I also had a piece of work in a group exhibition ‘Another Year, Another…’ held at the Elysium, Swansea. The piece was an untitled video projection of a performance filmed on Sker Beach, South Wales, using the materials of flour, feather, driftwood, blood and a pig’s heart.
I have just begun renting an art studio space at the Elysium Studios in Swansea. The spoken-word piece was a random collection of words that came to me whilst sitting in the studio for the first time. The image is part of a spontaneous installation in a secluded part of the Brecon Beacons next to a stream in July 2021 using unravelled book binding twine between two trees.
I have found being part of Praxis extremely valuable and helpful, particularly after leaving art college and feeling slightly at a loss and isolated from other artists with that sense of uncertainty and doubt. Praxis has been so supportive and eased that time after graduating.
